 Where in Washington project
is supported by Educational Technology Support Centers in the State of Washington.
This interactive, collaborative project features classrooms presenting, researching, and communicating about geographic locations within Washington State. Classrooms are connected through their school districts to the state K-20 video conferencing system in Washington. Olympia School District's Jefferson Middle School's
Diane Persky’s seventh grade students collaborated with Rich Bakala’s Channel J news kids for the event. At Hansen Elementary, Michael Watters’ fifth grade class participated at the elementary level using
large state maps and netbook computers to determine the other schools' locations.

Ron Morsette, Ed Tech Director for Olympia School District commented that
the Where in Washington project was a perfect example of a 21st Century
learning activity. It included research, communications, collaboration,
and presentation. It engaged kids in a hands-on project that was relevant
and innovative and our kids loved it. The teachers took the risk to enter
into this project and found that it was very rewarding.
